A public health emergency is any event that puts at risk the health of a community and its people. It can be caused by a natural disaster, like a flood; an accident, like a chemical spill; a disease outbreak, like SARS; or a terrorist attack.

If a public health emergency occurs in Harvey County, you will be instructed, through the media, to go to a Point of Distribution.

A Point of Distribution is a community building that is used to distribute medication to the public.

This is the symbol for a Point of Distribution (POD)Look for it in the event of a public health emergency.  The Point of Distribution in Harvey County is Newton High School, 900 W. 12th Street.

Please have the following information with you when you go to your Point of Distribution:

  • Names of all household members
  • Your address and phone number
  • Weights of all persons under 90 pounds
  • Medication allergies of all persons
  • Knowledge of other conditions, including
    • Liver
    • Epilepsy
    • Kidney
    • Pregnant
    • Breastfeeding
