In 2008, Harvey County purchased a 76 acre tract of land just off I-135 at the corner of Kansas Ave and SW 36th St across from the Chisholm Trail Shopping Center and Outlet Mall. The land was purchased in order to move the fairgrounds from the present site at 1st St and Grandview Ave in Newton to the new site. The site was selected because of its proximity to the Interstate Interchange between Newton and Wichita. It is proposed to build a facility for year round use, not just during the weeklong Harvey County Fair in August. The new site near the Interstate will greatly facilitate year round activities.
