Online Sex Crime Apprehend and Remove

The OSCAR Task force came together in January of 2008.  Under the leadership of Sheriff Walton and North Newton Assistant Police Chief, Bill Koonce, the OSCAR Task force operates throughout Harvey County. OSCAR is a part of the ICAC organization, internet crimes against children. Various law enforcement agencies of Harvey County are members of the Task force. They include: Newton Police Department, North Newton Police Department, Hesston Police Department, Harvey County Attorney's office and the Harvey County Sheriff's Office.

The Task force seeks to provide education to children and parents on internet predators and the dangers involved posed to children when they go into chat rooms.

OSCAR takes a proactive role in finding those individuals who trade images of child pornography. Search warrants are established and computers are forensically investigated to determine if there is any child pornography located on the computers. Charges of Child Sexual Exploitation are filed through the Harvey County Attorney's Office.

Since the formation of OSCAR, over 20 cases have been presented to the County Attorney's Office for review and charges.

Members of the OSCAR Task Force have made presentations to organizations, clubs, schools, and law enforcement agencies.  For more information about OSCAR, please contact Sheriff T. Walton.
