Harvey County's 2020 fiscal year budget was adopted Aug. 13 by the Harvey County Commission during its regular meeting.

The budget projects for a 42.175 mill levy, or a 0.1 decrease from 2019.

"We think this budget does a lot of good things in the county - continues our commitment to parks, and roads, and bridges, and public health and a number of other areas," said Harvey County Administrator Anthony Swartzendruber.

Capital improvement projects in the budget include $2 million of paved road improvements, replacing playground equipment at Harvey County Camp Hawk and West Park, the design phase of improvements to Hesston Road and additional 50-amp camping service at East and West parks.

Supplemental requests approved include an additional legal secretary position in the Attorney's Office and an additional $10,000 toward the mental health appropriation.

The budget was crafted over several months, including individual department budget hearings, the presentation of the recommended budget, a public budget hearing and more.
