Amanda Hitschmann took the oath of office Oct. 26 to become the Harvey County treasurer.

Hitschmann was sworn in by Ninth Judicial District Chief Judge Marilyn Wilder during the Harvey County Commission meeting.

Hitschmann, a lifelong Newton resident, has worked in the treasurer's office for 17 years, including the past three as the deputy treasurer. She has helped oversee several recent efficiencies in the treasurer's office, including streamlined filing systems and helping supervise the integration of new tax payment options for residents.

The county treasurer is an elected position. Hitschmann was appointed to fill the position after Emily Nichols resigned as treasurer. Hitschmann will fill the remainder of the term, which runs through 2024.
