The Harvey County Commission voted unanimously at its March 8, 2022 meeting to end the County's recycling operations at the Harvey County Transfer Station, effective May 1, 2022.

Currently, the County holds a contract with Waste Connections to provide recycling services at the Transfer Station at a rate of $15 per ton for commercial haulers.

The contract with Waste Connections expires April 30, 2022.

Waste Connections declined to submit a proposal to continue to operate on-site recycling services at the Transfer Station. Waste Connections presented a proposal to allow the County to haul its own recyclable materials to Waste Connections' facility in South Hutchinson at a rate of $98.50 per ton.

The County elected to discontinue future recycling services at the increased recycling rate.

Standard trash services are not affected by the decision, with those services continuing to be operated at the Transfer Station. The standard commercial rate for regular waste is $36 per ton.

Residents can continue to bring recyclable materials to the Transfer Station at no cost through April 30, 2022. The program will be discontinued as of May 1, 2022.
