Text to 911 follows a simple slogan: Call if you can, text if you can't.
Text to 911 debuted in Harvey County in 2017, allowing people in emergencies to contact Harvey County Communications through text messaging. While calling 911 remains the most efficient option, there are instances where an individual may not feel comfortable talking in certain circumstances, and where texting becomes a necessary alternative.
Text to 911 connects an individual with a dispatcher through messaging, allowing both the individual and dispatcher to communicate and receive information. An individual can simply send a text to the number 911 to begin reporting their emergency. Please be as straightforward as possible. Do not use abbreviations or emojis.
Text to 911 is available in Harvey County and all of our surrounding counties, including Butler, Marion, McPherson, Reno and Sedgwick.
