September is Baby Safety Month, a good reminder that the Harvey County Health Department has several programs available to assist parents with ensuring a safe and healthy environment for their child. Here's a few services we offer:

🧸 We have certified car seat technicians on staff to check that a car seat is properly installed at no cost. We also have convertible and high-back booster seats available based on income guidelines (while supplies last).

🧸 We can keep your child updated on recommended immunizations. You can find the recommended schedule for children here: www.cdc.gov/vaccines/by-age/index.html

🧸 We can guide you through resources available to you through the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program, as well as breastfeeding support programs.

The HCHD has even more to offer, and can also help connect you with many wonderful partner organizations throughout Harvey County. Give the HCHD a call at 316-283-1637.September is Baby Safety Month, a good reminder that the Harvey County Health Department has several programs available to assist parents with ensuring a safe and healthy environment for their child. Harvey County has selected Brad Jantz as its next county counselor. The county commission approved an agreement with Jantz at the commission's Sept. 24 meeting. Jantz fills the role previously held by Greg Nye, who served in that capacity for 18 years. We appreciate Nye's distinguished career helping our community.

The county counselor provides legal advice and expertise for a wide range of topics, including contracts, policy and regulations. Jantz carries nearly four decades of experience representing local governments.

Jantz serves as attorney for the cities of Burrton, Halstead and Sedgwick, among others, and as the counselor for Marion County since 2018. He has also served as a judge for various municipalities, and as a member of the Harvey County Indigent Defense Panel.

Jantz earned his juris doctor from the University of Kansas in 1985, where he also received a master's degree in business administration.Harvey County has selected Brad Jantz as its next county counselor. This evening we celebrated two more graduates from the Harvey County Drug Court program. Mark and Josh are our seventh and eighth graduates to date!

Drug Court is a collaboration between the judicial system, healthcare, law enforcement and treatment providers to present participants a path to rehabilitation. Participants choose to be in the program, but are tasked with meeting rigorous criteria through a five-phase program, including routine treatment meetings and appearances before the Drug Court. There are no shortcuts given. Consistent effort, improvement and dedication are required.

Mark noted he long battled relapses before Drug Court. He is committing to short-, medium- and long-term goals he has established for himself. "Now I've reached the end of the Drug Court program. Was it worth it? Yeah. Big time," Mark said.

Josh mentioned he was skeptical of the program at first, but sees his early stubbornness as reason for others to believe. "I realized what's important to me since being sober, and plan to keep moving forward," Josh said. "If I can do it, anyone can do it - if you want it."

"You both have kind of a common thread about you. You both knew you needed changes in your lives," said Drug Court Coordinator Bryan Weiser. "Couldn't be more proud of you guys."

We're all extremely proud of the work these two put in the past several months to reach where they are today. Congratulations!Photos from Harvey County Government's post

As we approach the end of the week and continue to finalize the
"Make a Plan" component of the 12 Steps of Preparedness, We encourage you to customize your plans and supplies according to your individual daily living needs and responsibilities.

Please take the time to discuss your unique requirements and responsibilities, and consider how members of your inner circle can support one another through effective communication, childcare, business needs, pet care, or specific requirements such as operating medical equipment.

It is important to create a personal network that addresses the areas where you may need assistance. As you develop your plan, please consider the following factors: (see photo attached, all ideas are provided by www.ready.gov)As we approach the end of the week and continue to finalize the

We've mentioned in the past that we're participating in a series of instructor-led discussions to promote leadership culture within our office. Recently, our team worked together to reimagine our mission statement.

Everyone on our team had the opportunity to help build and mold the standard to which we hold ourselves - sergeants, detention deputies, sheriff, everyone. We're proud of what our team developed. It's a succinct, achievable mission statement we'll strive to accomplish each day.
